Little Equinesse

Little Equinesse

Little Equinesse is the story behind the name Barnby Notes and it sets the tone for the magic that can happen within a notebook. It is a story about a girl named Birdie Layne, the youngest child of a farmer who lives in the town of Barnby, an endless equestrian playground.

In Barnby, learning to ride is a rite of passage for every child. But while most of the children wait patiently in long lines for their daily lessons, Birdie slips away to the woods behind the barn, notebook in hand, where she is determined to discover something, anything, new about nature's spirit. On her seventh birthday, Birdie's father gives her a horse of her own, and from that day forward her trips down the bridle path are of two kindred spirits -- for this colt has a curiosity that matches her own.

Together they acquaint themselves to all of nature's friends, from beetles to bee's nests, and in rain, sun or snow. Inspired by her father who taught her that by writing something down it will take on a life of its own and become more meaningful, perhaps even magical, Birdie studiously records the details about their adventures -- and it doesn't take long for Birdie to fill the pages of her notebook. One day however, notetaking takes on a very different meaning when, while Birdie looks the other way, her colt goes missing.
